The wildfire closest to me has been given its own name: the Station Fire. As of this writing it is 5% contained, covers more than 500 acres, and is still growing. The good news is that the winds are moving it slowly away from my house. The bad news is that it is also moving closer to La Canada and the homes along the Angeles Crest Highway.
So long as the winds remain mild, fire crews should be able to contain it quickly. Given the rapid spread of wildfires in the Southland tonight, I hope that is what will come to pass. The low humidity and the expected highs in the 100s tomorrow aren’t going to make it easy on the firefighters, however.
I canceled all my appointments today in case things changed and I had to evacuate. Even though my neighborhood hasn’t been told to evacuate yet, I’m glad I stayed home today. I would have been a nervous wreck had I kept my appointments and traveled 70 miles from home.

Open the Fire Detections: Current KMZ file and GEarth opens up showing all fire incidents. You can kinda get a feeling for which way a fire is moving.
