Bronwen,
I just picked up my mail and was surprised to see a catalog for the Gourd & Basket Weekend in the Garden. I had no idea I was still on some mailing list from my basket weaving days. I haven't done any weaving for over 10 years. I immediately thought of Lois and decided to google her name.

It is with great sadness I learned of her passing. I first met Lois when she taught weaving and gourds at The Learning Tree. As many have told you, she was a true inspiration. But for me, it brings me back to a very dark time in my life when I had very little hope for myself or my life. Somehow in her infinite quiet way she could read the warning signs that I so wanted to ignore.

One night I got a call from her daughter, Lisa, that changed my life. Or I should say saved my life. Lisa did most of the talking, I did all of the crying.

She made me see how much trouble I was in and helped me seek the professional help I so desperately needed.

So, yes, Lois was an amazing lady, but for me she was so, so much more. To this day I regret that I was not able to return the favor for Lisa. I think of her many many times. Please give my best to Herb.

A huge piece of Lois and Lisa are in my heart. I will never forget them.

Love,
Marnye

I took classes from Lois and really enjoyed that time. She called me a quick study and I felt energized by her words and encouragement and she awakened my creativity.

Thanks, Laura. I have said many times that I would have loved my grandmother even if she had not been my kin. Every day that we had together was a blessing, and I will miss her, her insights, her warmth and her company for a very long time.

After seeing the mountain cabin you referred to, and hearing some of the history about how Lois found it, I was intrigued. Bronwen, I came to your site to be sure I had your email address right. And here I found this tribute to your grandmother that expresses the love you feel and the consideration for her as a person. She was lucky to have you, and you were lucky to have her. I think she passed some values and life knowledge to you in a way that only special people can. My thanks to you for sharing her inspirational story from your perspective. It matters.
