Traveling Alone

People often ask me how it is that I’m not afraid to travel alone. Partly the reason is that I’ve traveled alone nearly all my life. But there’s more to it than that.

I like traveling on my own because of the freedom I have to explore new places without having to negotiate every step of the way. I can make spontaneous changes to my travel plans, or sleep in the hotel all day, and no one gets upset.

Now, I’m not saying that there aren’t times when I feel lonely, or that I wished I had a friend along with me to celebrate a special moment. I have. But ultimately it comes down to a very simple choice: Do I travel on my own, or do I stay at home because there is no one available to travel with me?

For me, that’s an easy decision to make.
