It took far longer than I ever expected, but I finally managed to adopt a dog! Two, actually!!
As most of you know, we have been a one-dog family for the past several months. It was a hard thing to lose Shorty, our black Lab, especially for Nana because Shorty was Nana’s constant companion. Since Shorty’s death Nana has been very lonely, missing the warmth and reassurance of having a furry person always at her side.
I would never dream of replacing Shorty, but I determined to ease Nana’s loneliness by getting another dog, and so I started looking up local rescue agencies to try filling the void in our household. Unfortunately, like Ellen Degeneres, I discovered that not all rescue agencies are created equal. We had used the Amanda Foundation in the past (that was where I got Lila last January), but since they are located in Beverly Hills I thought it would be nice to support folks more locally. Boy, was I wrong!
Long story short, after a month of complete failure to adopt, I called the Amanda Foundation. Within 48 hours I received, not one, but two return calls! As always, the ladies we friendly and helpful, and in short order we had a list of prospects for a possible new addition to our family and a date to come by for a meet and greet.
That happened yesterday, and I am delighted to announce the arrival and addition of Louie and Patrick to our family pack! Louie is about a year and a half, maybe two years old, and is some mix of Chihuahua and Terrier. He has the sweetest disposition, is a snuggle bug, and has become Lila’s “boy-toy”. (In a platonic, playmate sort of way…)Â
Patrick is also sweet and is bonding closely to Nana. She has been delighted each time he has come over to her and licked her nose, and she loves his little, cute face. (Personally, I think he looks something like a very happy Martian, or a distant relation to Yoda, what with the big ears, bug eyes, and contented smile.)
Patrick is somewhere between 8 and 11 years old, and seems to have survived a fire somewhere. He is also the quintessential lap dog, and a complete couch potato!
Both of the boys are settling in nicely, and we couldn’t be happier!
Yep, you could say that yesterday was a really good day!
